Countdown to the SAG-AFTRA Commercials Contract Transition
Hello,
As you may be aware, the Traditional Contract will expire on December 31, 2022. The following contains information about the January 1, 2023 transition to producing and renewing commercials solely under the new 2022 SAG-AFTRA Commercials Contract’s compensation and editing structures.
We look forward to you producing under the new 2022 Contract compensation and editing structures if you haven’t already, and we are always interested in hearing your feedback. Below is some of the feedback we’ve received so far regarding benefits of the new compensation and editing structures:
- Costs to hire union talent in commercial productions are more predictable and easier to budget with the changes introduced in the 2022 SAG-AFTRA Commercials Contract (e.g., flat fees and per cycle use).
- The 2022 Contract allows for more creativity as a result of the updated and flexible editing provisions. Creative teams are now able to produce more versions to give their clients better value for their talent dollar.
- Using the 2022 Contract is simpler and easier to understand since nearly 30 pages of rate tables have been replaced with flat fees and use cycle options for all media types, excluding Class A, which is now capped for signatory advertisers and signatory agencies.
Additionally, I’ve attached some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding the transition. If you have any questions, please contact the JPC for more information.
Thanks,
